Call from College and a Package to Go

Started out the day just hanging out with Will.  Nick was gone to a friend’s so we had the house to ourselves.  Netflix has been our friend lately.  While we were just hanging out in the living room, Caley called!  She was a little frantic because she got a check from her school.  This is one of those times when being a kid meets growing up.  She was a little upset because when I told her the money was overage from the student loans and school tuition.  The part that didn’t make since to her was feeling it was going to cost more money in interest.  We explained that the student loans can also include some living expenses, books and supplies sometimes.  Interest on student loans are lower than other loans and she can use that for books next semester or things that she needs for school.  The other part was about how to use a credit union co-op.  We have an account at a credit union and I didn’t know that credit unions all over the US have agreements so people can deposit and withdraw fund at a co-op credit union connected to your own.  It’s pretty cool and I have used it sometimes when traveling and works good.  Sometimes they do put a hold on checks that you deposit, so I have learned from my own credit union that it is better to also have a copy of the check you are depositing.

While we were talking to Caley we asked to see her room because she told us she re-arranged a little.  After some encouragement she reluctantly agreed, only because her room was messy.  It’s not like we have not seen her room messy before!  The room looked more useable from the first arrangement and we saw her new rug they bought.

A little later we had to go to the Apple Store to have them check my phone.  It is dyeing at an alarming rate then comes back on with 40% power, so frustrating!  They ran a diagnostic and learned that it was my software so now I need to wipe out the phone and restore it.  At best I will wipe it and it will come back on the restore without the problem and at worst, I will have to “start from new”.  If I do have to start form a new one, then on the up side, I won’t have a memory problem.  So after the Apple Store we went to find a new store in the mall called ThinkGeek and wow.  They had all kinds of ‘geeky’ stuff.  They had a lot of pop’s and of course, Will wanted one and they were buy 3 get one free so we had to have 4. We ended up sending tons of pictures to Caley because they had cool Harley Quinn stuff and Darth Vader stuff!  Caley likes Harley and Vanessa (her roommate) likes Vader.  We also found some Vader ice trays and a few other fun things to send in the next care package.

One the way back home the OU game started so I found a radio station that was playing the game.  We got home in time to see most of the game.  It had some ups and downs and Will was getting a little frustrated, but in the end OU won against TCU.  While the game was going on I worked on the garage to finish up the area that needed to be completed in order to fit both Will’s and my car in the garage at the same time.  There has been a “craft” box in the garage for years (came from the other house).  I finally went through it today and strangely enough more than half of it was trash.  Why didn’t I do that sooner?  There are always things that we put off in life and sometimes it makes you feel better to just take care of it and not ignore it until you have to deal with it.  Speaking of that, now I have some donation boxes to take care of on Monday.  In order to not forget to them, I’m putting them in my car so I can’t ‘ignore’ them.

Also made some cookies today toward the end of the game so I could send them out to some certain kids.  Will thinks I made them because Jacob sent me a chat showing he is almost out of cookies, but he is the one that asked me to make them the other day.  Since the game was stressing Will a little, I thought it best to make yummy chocolate chips.  This time I put 2 1/2 cups of flour.  Last time I used 2 and was not happy with the results.  I packaged up some cookies and have both Jacob’s and Caley’s packages almost ready to go.  Of course I can’t seal them until I go to the post office because what if I need to add something?  I already have a list of “don’t forgets” for Caley’s.  Since I have the boxes from the post office, they will be ready to go come Monday!

Almost ready to ship!

The Day for Goodbye

Slept in and we defiantly needed it! Will and I went to eat at Waffle House (yes, second time this trip). Nick wanted more sleep. 😉 After our tummies were full back to our Airbnb to change for the beach!

We picked up Caley and Venessa at one of the SCAD buildings so they could run to the dorm then we were off to Tybee Island. Made a quick stop to buy towels and sun screen for my easily sun burned husband! The sand was soft and the water just right! Ocean waves smacked us around a little and it was worth it! A little more wet than when we came and with the taste of saltwater on our lips, we headed back for the girls to go to a meeting in their dorm. Took some fun pictures on the edge of the water and of course caught a few Pokemon on the beach.

As we dropped them off it was a quick goodbye and I felt like it would be the last, so the tears began to roll, roll and roll. Will turned to me and said we would see her one more time and that seemed to easy it for a bit. After we had quick showers and changed, we realized we didn’t eat lunch so went back to have dinner on the river. Had a nice meal at Joe’s Crab Shack next to the water. Mixed cherry drink was nice and the company was even better! I was texting and snap chatting (picture texting app-Snap Chat) with Caley. She told us to come back by since Vanessa was taking a nap. Since we were only a mile or so away, didn’t take us long to get there.

We parked the car and Caley came out to visit and we made small talk about left overs and bikes. Then it was time to say…goodbye…  I gave her the first hug and held on tight for a while. My first born, my baby girl, my best friend was staying behind and I was leaving. Then Dad hugged her and told her to make good choices and get good grades. Nick was next and I had to have the last one too! I tried hard not to cry, but I just could not help myself. As we drove away I could not help thinking she would now be 15 hours away.

I’m finding games are helping distract me a bit. The family introduced me to a new game called Best Fiends and between that and Pokemon it has help cope. Along those same lines after we left Caley, Nick wanted to drive back to the beach to Pokemon hunt, so we did! Driving around the beach reminded me of some advise I told others: “Pokemon hang out at the beach”. In case you are thinking, she plays that game? The answer is yes, and proud of it. Whatever helps to calm the mind.

The time has come to hook up the empty trailer, pack the suit cases and load the car. Yes, I said trailer. We just didn’t have enough room for her bike, jewelry mirror, cloths, stuff and the rest of us in just the car. Will is not excited about hauling it home, but it is so much more expensive to leave it here. They already got my first born, don’t need to leave more money than necessary!  Not looking forward to the 4 hour drive to the Atlanta airport to fly to Grand Rappids, MI. Keeping busy for a while is part of coping plan.

Orientation & Mom’s Taxi

This morning started early with teaching a class for REALTORS® about being a paperless agent and working with Dotloop. Had to run a few errands then picked up the boys and we were off to SCAD orientation.

Learned a lot about her school and they even gave us our own handbook book and schedule. After the first part they divided the parents and students and finished telling us everything from career planning, campus security and laundry. (Yes, did you know the laundry machine will text you when the load is done? Why can’t mine at home do that!)

We were able to spend the evening with Caley in Savannah, strolled through downtown, had a fabulous steak dinner at Tondee’s Tavern and a waiter that was just as great!  Looked around at some shops and found a few things and did a little Pokemon hunting while we were in the middle of a lot of Poke-stops. 😳

Finally found a power strip, last one at Best Buy, for her dorm. After we dropped her off at her new home, the boys and I went to a movie. I think it is easier to gradually say goodbye. One more day of activities at the campus and then not sure what else we will do for the remainder of our time. Beach may be fun, it’s only about 20 minutes away. I took Caley and Nick to the West coast beach last summer, why not the East coast this year.

Just about the time I think I’m going to bed, I get a call requesting Mom’s Taxi service. Of course I jumped at the chance to run my girl and her roommate from Target to their door room. It didn’t matter that it was 1am or that she could have taken the bus. The fact remained I was 10 minutes away and could! It made me feel useful and needed to help with the Target haul from the SCAD shopping night. Also got to hang a few more cloths, put away the food stash and in true mom fashion notice that two cords were tangled in a stool so if anyone tried to pick it up, electronics from the desk would surely fall. No worries, I fixed it. Well worth giving up sleep for her!!
